Hamilton County’s annual Relay for Life event will be held Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 at the old high school track in Jasper. The event starts off with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. Friday evening.
Kaitlynn Floyd, community representative for the American Cancer Society, said, “We want the entire community to come out. It's not just for teams and survivors, but everyone. They can walk around, see the different tents, buy some food and participate in the games.”
All cancer survivors are invited to come to the survivor celebratory lap that begins at 6 p.m. on Friday and it will be followed by a dinner at Central Hamilton Elementary cafeteria at 6:30 p.m.
Survivors are asked to arrive by 5:45 p.m. Friday to receive their T-shirt. Survivors are also encouraged to bring along their caregivers.
“We will be out there all night, starting Friday at 6 p.m. until Saturday at noon,” said Floyd. “We are still accepting participants in the Mr. Relay competition. Basically, it is any male that wants to raise money and wear a crazy purple outfit on Relay night!”
Many fun activities are planned for this event that include live music, a karaoke contest, water balloon toss, jump rope marathon, musical chairs and a pie eating contest, as well as many others, and they will be going on all night until closing ceremonies at 12 noon on Saturday.
To be a part of this event, survivors can register online at www.relayforlife.com/HamiltonFl or call Kaitlynn Floyd at 352-240-5063.
Make plans now to come out and show your support for this worthwhile event.
