Rant & Rave - Aug. 23, 2013

Suwannee Democrat

Live Oak — just one small item. Thank you Mr. Bashaw for all the hours you have put out on the job and talking with the employees and finding out just what they do need to do that job for the PEOPLE not for just yourself. We have no place for greed or self appointed agenda's to shut Suwannee County off from the World.

‘THANK YOU’ to our Commissioner Jason Bashaw.
I needed help and he immediately took action to help me fix the problem.
Suwannee County is fortunate to have him on the Board of County Commissioners. Please keep up the great work that you do for us and for making Suwannee County a great place to live and work.

The restored store fronts on Howard Street and sections of Ohio St. look great. Live Oak leaders I'm proud of the progress you're making downtown. The 2 buildings demolished are a blessing in disguise. The space offers a new list of possibilities.

The first day of school and my 10th grader was not issued ANY text books.  I was told there was no class work and no homework.  Sounds like a GREAT start of a new year.  :(
It makes one wonder whether or not all classes in all Suwannee County schools operate similarly.

The wife and I have been out west on vacation for a couple of weeks. Absolutely enjoying ourselves and the folks out here are friendly and happy. Just went to the democrat online. Ended up on the rant and rave page. I'm extending my trip for another week.

The property assessments have dropped yr after yr -- slaughtering our property values -- now they want to raise the mileage because of lost tax dollars which is due to them lowering the assessments ------CROOKED !!! I hope everyone stands up and fights it -- why should we have our tax rate raised and values at almost half what they were

Mayor Nobles and his noble minions Mixon and Grantham are at it again. One day they will learn, the will of the people will prevail.

****

Keep up the great work Mr. Prins. You are trying to make our city more attractive to business. Don't let the small minded nay sayers stop you. A better place we will be once the idiots who serve with you on the council quit pretending to play in the big leagues and learn to join the professionals who know how to look out for our future.

****

Councilman Prins is working for the people. He and Councilmen Thomas and Ulee understand what it takes to build a community. It takes wise and intelligent men capable of doing the right thing. Councilmen Grantham and Mixon could learn a lesson or two from them. All they know is how to legislate their own beliefs upon the citizens and stifle economic growth.

When EMS ( Ambulance service ) grows faster than revenues it's time to do like Columbia County contract this service out to private business, it would cost the taxpayers less, you will get as good if not better service.

Yes, I’m a resident I live on 103rd Road in the north part of Suwannee County and our road you can hardly drive on it. Yesterday we had a storm about an hour after the grader went through and that seems to be every time. I’m just wondering if the road department don’t know how to turn the weather on to find out when the storm’s going to happen cause this is every time.

****

When you go up 129th Drive in McAlpin you go to the four way stop, somebody needs to trim the limbs away from the stop sign cause you can barely see the stop sign the county needs to come and cut it or something cause you have a hard time seeing.

I get sick every time I see a sign in town that says feed the cats, feed the cats of Live Oak. Don’t you people realize that god gave animals an instinct to kill for their food and don’t you know there are hungry children in Live Oak and Suwannee County that need food more than these animals do. If you don’t believe it, go to the schools and talk to the school officials.

****

I can’t believe that the city of Live Oak has built a sidewalk all the way to the Suwannee HealthCare and now they’re building one down Railroad Street. Why don’t they take that money and try to do something about this water problem in Live Oak where people’s homes flooded this past June was a year ago.

****

I just want to say that we like the picture of the proposed park in downtown where the buildings were demolished. And it’s beautiful and think it would be a good asset to the community. Because of the devastation that Debby caused we think it should be called Debby Park.

Somebody needs to do something about the newspaper, the 3A page you can’t read it at all.

You are right. We have spoken with our printers about this. - Editor

On Friday Aug. 16, 2013 on page 12A in the Democrat, the future around warren, it mentions the green area where the buildings once stood. Since it is in black and white it is rather difficult to tell where the buildings once stood. That is common when you guys just talk about the colors and it’s a black and white newspaper.

our tax notice came this week every thing in the county is going up. they are having a public hearing on 9-5-13 for fire and property taxes in the county judicial annex it will only hold about 100 people giving the people no place to sit. they don't want us to come and speak up about the waste that's going on in our county.

Hey, athletes:  Calculate, if you can, the total time spent on all physical activities, and spend the amount of same on your core subjects.  Imagine!

Leave Jason Bashaw alone. He is a very active county commissioner. He should not be criticized for bettering himself to get an education. And everybody should have a pass for getting sick.
