18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Day Banquet

Observance celebrations start off with the Dr. King birthday banquet on Saturday at 6 p.m. Individual tickets are $15 a person and $100 per table. Dress code required as follows: church attire or semi-formal. The Dr. King Parade will be Monday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. More to come on that in a future edition of the Suwannee Democrat


Branford Chili Cook-Off

The Fifth Annual Branford Chili Cook-Off will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Hatch Park on Craven Street in Branford.

The event will include a silent auction for adults and kids, door prizes, live DJ, antique car show, moon walk, kiddie train rides, Home Depot Kids Workshop, and a chili contest.  

First, second and third place cash prizes and best decorated booth will be awarded. The public is invited.

A $5 admission to the event will include all you can eat chili.

Proceeds from the Fifth Annual Branford Chili Cook-Off will benefit Herry’s Kids Pediatric Services, a program of the Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast.

Event organizers said the event will still go on as planned, rain or shine. 


Suwannee Weddings Expo

The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak is hosting the Suwannee Weddings Expo Sunday in the Grande Hall of the park. Admission is free. Brides to be that are planning their big event for 2014 can check out the Expo now in its fifth year. The event features food samples by caterers, a huge bridal show by the popular Golden Needle of Lake City, entertainment, wedding/event specialists, photographers, travel agencies, florists, Origami jewelry, wedding DJs, Allies of Lake City, caterers, Suwannee Valley Party Rental, wedding cake displays and more.

The park is located at 3076 95th Drive.
