Live Oak —
A Live Oak man was arrested Tuesday on charges of armed robbery, grand theft and possession of a firearm by a felon after he and an unknown person reportedly “stormed into a house” on Railroad Avenue and robbed individuals playing a card game, according to Live Oak Police Detective Justin Bates.
According to Bates, on Monday, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers responded to the area of Railroad Avenue and Miller Street for an alleged robbery. When officers arrived they were able to determine that several men were at a residence near that location enjoying a card game among friends. While they were playing cards, two black males stormed into the house, one wearing a mask and armed with firearm. The other male, Jerome Louis Carter, 27, 301 Parshley St., Live Oak, was also armed but not wearing a mask. When the duo entered the residence, they ordered all of the victims to put their personal property on the card table. Carter and the other unknown suspect took all the property and fled the area.
As the subjects fled, gun shots were reportedly fired at Carter’s car from an unknown location/person. No one was reported injured.
A short time later, Carter’s white 1997 Mercury car was found hidden behind a residence on Walker Avenue, but after a search of the area, Carter could not be located.
Through the course of the investigation, it was determined Tuesday that Carter was hiding in Jasper in Hamilton County at the Triangle Inn, one of the cities lodging facilities. With the assistance of Suwannee County Drug Task Force agents and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Carter was located and taken into custody without incident.
Further investigation is ongoing as to who the other subject is. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Live Oak Police Department at 386-362-7463 or the Suwannee County Crime Stoppers at 386-208-4877.
Carter was booked into the Suwannee County Jail.
