Sweets-N-the-Streets a hit, but parade canceled due to weather

Jasper — Despite the threat of stormy, rainy weather, Jasper's Annual Sweets-N-the Streets went on as scheduled this afternoon. The overcast skies and strong winds couldn't keep the crowd away, either. The event was originally scheduled for Nov. 30, but was postponed for various reasons and rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14.

Several of the vendors who were slated to participate in the event, however, canceled at the last minute, not willing to take a chance on getting rained out. Those who did come out and set up did quite well with lots of sales, as a large number of people stopped by their booths. Shoppers had plenty of time to browse and buy as the rain held off for hours.

One of the entertainment participants, Jamie Lee, had a large crowd watching as she performed a spiritual modern dance. She is to be commended for her performance, as she valiantly fought the winds to complete her inspirational set.

The annual Jasper Christmas parade was canceled just before noon today, as heavy rain and thunderstorms were predicted to roll through the region beginning late afternoon and into the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville.

Chamber of Commerce President Susan Ramsey said an announcement will be made Monday morning as to whether or not the Christmas parade will be rescheduled. There is a possibility that the parade will be able to go on Friday evening, Dec. 20. The Jasper News will keep you posted.
