Lady Bulldogs end season 9-13

SHS softball team eliminated in first round of District 3-4A tournament

The Suwannee High School Lady Bulldogs varsity softball season came to an end in the first round of the District 3-4A tournament. Suwannee, seeded fourth in the six-team district, was defeated by fifth-seed Middleburg 5-1. During the regular season, Suwannee and Middleburg split their home and home series.

The Lady Bulldogs were limited to two base hits against Middleburg in the tournament. Right fielder Brittney Shearer singled into right field and later scored on a single to center field by shortstop Mary Badgerow. Pitcher Dale Townsend pitched seven innings, allowed five earned runs, 10 base hits, a walk and struck out six Middleburg batters.

Finishing the year on a six game losing streak, the Lady Bulldogs ended the year with a 9-13 record.



Team leaders for the year were:

Batting average: Dale Townsend (.317)

Most hits: Dale Townsend (19)

Runs scored: Chelsea Davis and Jessica Johnson (11)

Runs batted in: Cortney Ross (12)

Extra base hits: Cortney Ross (6)

Stolen bases: Dale Townsend (5)

Bases on balls: Jessica Johnson (11)

On-base percentage: Dale Townsend (.375)



On the mound, Townsend pitched 138.3 innings, allowed 125 hits, 44 earned runs, 50 bases on balls and 138 strikeouts. Her earned run average was 2.22 runs per games.
