Live Oak —
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the Sunday afternoon Florida Highway Patrol shooting that left one man dead, but isn't releasing any details at this time.
The Democrat contacted the FHP first thing this morning but was told they are to refer all questions by the media to the FDLE. After contacting the FDLE, it was learned that the only information that could be released at this time was that FDLE is indeed investigating the shooting.
Details of what exactly happened and the name of the person shot dead remain unreportable at this time.
What we do know is that around 2:05 p.m. Sunday, an FHP patrol car attempted to stop a maroon truck as it traveled on US 90 East past Live Oak.
Suwannee County Fire/Rescue said that once the vehicle was stopped, the driver jumped out brandishing a hand gun.
It is not yet clear if the person fired at FHP. The man was shot four to five times by FHP and died later on route to a Gainesville hospital.
