Dog weightlifting got off to a great start March 1st in Baker County. The Bulldog lifting squad placed first with 50 points over Baker and Jasper.

“We had a great showing,” said new weightlifting coach Jimmy Clay. “The boys are pumped and full of energy. We placed in every weight class.”

In 119 class Brandon Stratton, a freshman, placed second. Stratton lifted 140 on the bench and 125 in the clean and jerk for a total of 265 lifted.

In 129 weightclass another freshman Kyle Skeen took the win and freshman Shawn Kelly placed second. Skeen lifted 160 on the bench, 135 in the clean and jerk for a total of 295 lifted. Kelly 150 on the bench, 140 in the clean and jerk for a total of 290 lifted.

Joe Kelly, returning from a trip to state last year, placed first in 139 with Chris Bevel placing third. Joe Kelly lifted 235 on the bench, 210 in the clean and jerk for a total of 445 lifted. Bevel lifted 185 on the bench, 185 in the clean and jerk for a total of 365.

In 154 weightclass Jarrett Yulee got off to a great start this year placing first. Yulee lifted 240 on the bench, 220 in the clean and jerk for a total of 460 lifted.

In 169 Laurell Cherry placed first. Cherry lifted 265 on the bench, 235 in the clean and jerk for a total of 510 lifted. Lee Laxton, just coming off wrestling, placed third in the 169 class. Laxton lifted 240 on the bench, 220 in the clean and jerk for a total of 460 lifted.

In 183 Brandon Allen placed third. Allen lifted 235 on the bench, 245 in the clean and jerk for a total of 480 lifted.

Chad Hardin placed third in 199. Hardin lifted 245 on the bench, 225 in the clean and jerk for a total of 470 lifted.

In 219 weightclass, Dustin Doe tied for first place. Doe lifted 295 on the bench, 255 in the clean and jerk for a total of 570 lifted.

In 238, Michael Wright, another wrestler, placed third. Wright lifted 305 on the bench, 250 in the clean and jerk for a total of 555.

In the heavyweight division, Cody Howard, who was unable to compete last year because the heavyweight spot was filled, placed first. Leon Daniels placed second. Howard lifted 330 on the bench, 240 in the clean and jerk for a total of 585.

“The whole team put out great effort with numerous personal bests,” Clay said.

Come watch the Bulldog lifters perform on March 15 in the Suwannee High gym as they take on Hamilton County and Trinity Christian. Lifting starts at 2 p.m.
