The junior varsity Bulldogs scored five touchdowns in a 32-8 win over the Wakulla War Eagles Sept. 21 in Live Oak.

Justin Waters scored twice while Dantae Jordan and Antonio Fields added one touchdown each. Bryne Allen blocked a punt which Garrett Pritchett recovered in the end zone for another score. Austin O'Connor added a two-point conversion.

"It was a great way to end our four-game home stand," said coach Chris Martello. "Not only where we able to control the scoreboard against Wakulla, but we were able to get some great looks at everyone on our roster. Everyone got to play and contribute on the field. We don't get a chance to do that every week."

The Bulldogs started strong but fumbled on their first possession. The Suwannee defense stopped the War Eagles in their tracks deep in their own territory. Allen then blocked a Wakulla punt, which Pritchett recovered for the score. Allen and Pritchett are both back-up varsity players and were allowed to play during the varsity squad's open week because each had missed a game due to injury. Rules limit high school players to a total of 10 varsity or JV games per season in any combination.

Xavier Perry had two fine punt returns, one for an apparent touchdown which was negated by an illegal downfield block.

Having played four in a row at home, the JV Dogs must now leave the friendly confines of the "dog house" for their remaining three games. "Hopefully, we've improved enough to perform well on the road," said Martello. "Only time will tell."

Next up for the Bulldogs is Hamilton County. The Dogs take on the Trojans Sept. 28 in Jasper. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
