Fain Skinner wins the Sunbelt Super Late Models for the running of the Seventh Annual Florida State Late Model Championship, Mark III Conversions 200, presented by Midas Jewelers.
Jeff Choquette was the top Sunbelt Super Late Model qualifier with a lap time of 20.943 running 128.92 mph.
Choquette and Mike Fritts made up the front row of the 28-car field. Choquette took the lead in the initial green and led through the first 50 laps.
On lap 51 Jeff Scofield took over the lead from Choquette. With the high heat and humidity the attrition rate was high as well. Many front runners Fritts, David Rogers, Brian Finney and Chris Fontaine were out early. Scofield suffered a broken rear end on lap 124.
A rash of pit stops hit leaving Joe Boyd the new leader. A few laps late Dwayne Dempsey was in the lead.
Around lap 137, Choquette, who was running in second place, broke the shifter lever on restart causing another caution.
Some of the front runners had already hit the pits for tires. this opened the door for Fain Skinner, foster, Middleton and Boyd.
With 40 laps to run, Dempsey was on top with Skinner on his tail in hot pursuit.
Skinner took over the lead on lap 162 and never looked back. With a sizable lead, Skinner was able to save his car for the end. Jason Boyd was coming on, but used his car up trying to catch Skinner.
When the checkered flag flew, it was Fain Skinner across the finish line first. Boyd finished second, Martin Pierce was third. foster placed fourth and Dempsey finished fifth.
