RANT & RAVE - Oct. 16

Suwannee Countians, it's time to speak your mind! How? By calling the Suwannee Democrat Rant and Rave hotline. The hotline never closes and is your way to let it out. You can let everyone know how you feel -- as long as you express yourself in a respectful way.
Note: In written entries to Rant and Rave, errors in spelling, grammar or punctuation are those of the authors.

I sure would like to look at how Live Oak's sign ordinance is being enforced if in fact they do have one. Looking at the city every day as I drive through it doesn't look like there is much concern about how trashy the city is starting to look with all these unkempt, poorly developed signs. As far as the wrapping up at Pilgrim's, you might look at the mix of employees, how many are coming from this area, this community, versus out of state, or being bused in. Something to look at. By the way, the deal isn't done yet.

Yes, I would like to know why the city don't make these people mow their lawns and their vacant lots. Snakes are coming out of them, and if somebody dropped a match, after it gets dry, it would burn the whole neighborhood down. Why aren't these owners notified, and if they don't mow their grass, then why don't the city do it for them and charge them? Thank you.

Thank you Mayor Nobles for presenting the Mayor's Community Service Award to Yvonne Scott. Her tireless efforts has added much to many lives in the community.

We have all heard about excessive noise from boom boxes and radios being abused. Let's address tinted windows. Now let's address another problem. Go to any of our larger parking lots that have parallel parking and watch people. When they come out they discover that a van, suburban, SUV or other large vehicle has parked beside them. You look over your shoulder to see if another vehicle is coming before you back out, but you can't see through the vehicles windows, so you play Russian Roulette. What has happened to the laws of legal tint on all vehicles?

After living in Suwannee County for seven and a half years, and watching what goes on with local government, I have one thing to say: I am so sorry that ignorance is not painful.
~~
Yes, I have a rave. I would like to thank our public safety director for finally doing something about the equipment. I was told the other day that they had the Department of Transportation doing safety checks on all the fire engines and stuff. I think that is great. And it just helps prevent the possibility of a possible lawsuit down the road from faulty equipment. As I believe everyone knows, we just recently had a crash with a fire engine and it was blamed on faulty equipment. I think you are doing a great job. He needs to be praised for it, and continue to do the work to help the county to spend less money and fewer lawsuits and the possibility of accidents with these fire trucks.

The Suwannee County Health Department administrator, is providing a packet of material on the H1N1 virus, vaccine information sheets, the Health Department's privacy statement and a consent form to (public?) school students' parents. All material is in English and Spanish. Why is she not providing the information in Chinese, Korean, Russian, etc. for all the OTHER NON-ENGLISH-SPEAKING PARENTS??? Why is she catering ONLY to the Hispanics? This is discrimination, pure and simple!
Oh, is it perhaps that only the Hispanics don't believe they need to learn our country's language?

I'd like to give a big RAVE to the kind woman in front of my car at the
parade today! Several times she asked spectators not to block the front
of my car as my sick little girl was inside watching the parade. We picked
up my daughter's flu medication at Cheek & Scott and were unable to get
out before the streets closed. My daughter was disappointed at having to
miss the parade but thanks to this nice lady she was able to sit in the car
with the AC and see everything!
