Rant & Rave
Want to vent? Our hotline is open 24/7.
Suwannee Countians, it's time to speak your mind! How do you do that? By calling the Suwannee Democrat Rant & Rave hotline! The hotline never closes and is your way to let it out.

What once was a peaceful refuge has become an obstacle course. Our local library has its own afternoon welcome committee. Fifteen to 20 kids trying, it seems, to run us over with skateboards, chasing each other, not caring who they might hit. I am especially concerned for our elderly and our young children. To enter, we walk through foul language, disrespect, clouds of smoke, making out (no exaggeration). The "occasional" appearance of LOPD is laughable. Kids just watch for their taillights to turn the corner. Parents, do you know or even care what your child is "innocently" doing at the library or who they are with? The library staff excellently serves the public, but are not staffed to monitor the afternoon mob. Parents, this is not a playground . . . your teens need to go home unless they are studying, otherwise, they are going to hurt someone sooner or later.

Mayor Nobles' article in the Democrat last week about his situation, about his equipment doings, stunk. I think really he owes the people of the city of Live Oak an explanation of what's going on down there and what's going on at city hall, by having an answering open party where people ask questions. If he's scared to answer them, what's he got to hide? If it takes a grand jury to open up, that's what it takes. Let it be.

I would like some investigation done on the fairgrounds at the pig barn because the parents and handicapped grandparents cannot even get in the barn to watch their children and grandchildren show their hogs and cows. Could you please check out to see if it can't be moved to the arena or possibly build a larger barn?

In response to a Rant & Rave article in the paper about the NAACP running the county in lieu of the county commissioners. That is not correct. The county commissioners do run the county, but the county commissioners have to obey the law just like anybody else has to obey the law. The county commissioners are not above the law. And the court order was very simple -- that all voting in Suwannee County shall be by single member district. That takes precedence over Florida statue or anything else. County commissioners must obey the law too.

This trouble we're having with the city utility company contracted with city of Live Oak, OMI, not wanting to share the report they found on this dumping and all with city officials. I think Mayor Nobles is responsible for that and I think they should convene a grand jury and look into this thing. And if they need to indict somebody, start indicting and get to the bottom of this thing for the people of Live Oak.
