OUR VIEW -- Sept. 10

So, what would you like to know?

You've heard their stump speeches (at The Last Word or elsewhere), and read, in the pages of this newspaper, their responses to some fairly detailed policy questions ("In their own words," Aug. 22). Now it's time to hear the candidates speak on issues that matter to you.

Political candidates who remain in contention for local office will field questions from voters at a Suwannee Democrat-sponsored town hall forum, tentatively set for mid-October.

Here's how it will work. Starting in next week's Democrat, and in every subsequent edition until the event, you'll find a form on which you can pen a question you'd like candidates in any given race - state representative, clerk of court, superintendent of schools, sheriff and county commissioner (districts 3 and 5) - to answer.

The Suwannee Democrat editorial board will decide in advance which questions will be asked. At the event, our moderator will direct your inquiries to the candidates, who will be hearing them for the first time.

Date, time and location will be announced soon.

This will be your best, and last, chance to learn what local office-seekers stand for. Candidates, get ready for your close-ups.
