Owen Carson McCall, Jr.

Owen Carson McCall, Jr., 46, of Mayo, Fla. passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Haven Hospice of Lake City following an extended illness.  Carson was born May 12, 1966 in Lake City, Fla., to the late Owen Carson McCall Sr. and Margaret (McClain) McCall.
Carson was a native of Lafayette County and returned to Mayo in 2002 after living in Alachua County for 12 years. While living in Alachua County, he served as a sheriff’s deputy, an investigator, and a detective. In 1997, he was selected the Alachua County Officer of the Year. He was appointed Sheriff of Lafayette County in 2002 by Governor Jeb Bush and served as Sheriff from 2002 through 2008. Carson was also a former Police Chief for the town of Mayo. He was an active member of the Alton Church of God where he served on the church council.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon McCall, a daughter Shelbi McCall, and his mother, Margaret McClain McCall, all of Mayo, and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Alton Church of God Family Life Center in Mayo with Bro. Tim Hamm officiating.  Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery.  The family received friends one hour prior to the service.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Alton Church of God Building Fund. All arrangements are under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.

R.A.  Jackson, 82, of Mayo, left this life to begin eternity with his Lord on March 21, 2013. RA was born July 1, 1930 in Mayo, to the Late John and Mamie (Jones) Jackson.  Mr. Jackson served his county as a member of the United States Army and was a faithful charter member of First Assembly of God in Mayo.  RA and his wife Mildred established Alton Dairy in 1950.  With much work, dedication and blessings of the Lord, they were able to realize their dreams of a happy , prosperous life.  But the thing that gave RA the most satisfaction was the knowledge that all of his family was saved and serving the Lord.
