On December 28, 2006, in the early morning hours, a fire involving a D-6 Caterpillar located in Mallory Swamp was reported to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office. It was determined that the cause of the fire was arson. The State Fire Marshall was notified and also conducted an investigation.

The equipment that burned belonged to Clinton Keen who was doing contract work with Suwannee River Water Management District. The State Fire Marshall is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.
