Previous story

The Hamilton County High School boys basketball team has made it on a short list of HCHS boys basketball teams that have advanced so far. The team defeated Chipley Wednesday afternoon 85-48 securing the Trojans from Jasper a chance at winning the state title.

According to coach Patrick Murphy, this is only the seventh time a HCHS boys basketball team has made it to state.

Murphy said the guys could not be more excited.

Prior to the game the Jasper News spoke to Murphy while he and the team were on the road to Lakeland where they played Chipley.

“It’s awesome,” Murphy said, who was beaming with excitement.

Murphy said the community helped raise $2,500 in less than 24 hours so the team could charter a nice bus to the state semi-final game.

“This is an exciting experience for us,” said Murphy. “We appreciate the support of the community.”

How we got here

The Trojans defeated Bronson High School Tuesday night, Feb. 18, 78-49 in the regional semi-finals playoff game. With the win, the Trojans advanced to the regional championship game Friday at HCHS where they played, and defeated, Hawthorne. The final score was 79-69.

The Trojans will take on Malone at the Lakeland Center at 12:05 p.m. today (Thursday) for the state championship title.
