Suwannee Countians, it's time to speak your mind! How? By calling the Suwannee Democrat Rant and Rave hotline. The hotline never closes and is your way to let it out. You can let everyone know how you feel -- as long as you express yourself in a respectful way.

Note: In written entries to Rant and Rave, errors in spelling, grammar or punctuation are those of the authors.

In regards to the previous letter: I don't think teenage pregnancy is virtuous. I don't think low birthweight is virtuous or being raised by a child is virtuous. Thank you.

How can you explain a "free enterprise zone" under the thumb of the county or why an entrepreneur would want this co. or any gov't. entity in their venture? If local gov't. wants to bring badly needed jobs & investment here, they should focus on providing the services expected from them such as fire prot., utilities, trash pickup, etc. Free enterprise will follow on it's own. This taxpayer funded real estate speculation scheme just gives them power over who, how, & what kind of business can operate here. The job description is public service, not landlord or dictator. Ignoring the folks who back the big fat paychecks & setting policy from the pulpit has historically never worked. Gettin rid of this kinda thinking will create an enviroment for "free enterprise", not gov't. grant money.

I would like to express my opinion to the Suwannee Democrat changing their format on the Internet. I find it very difficult to look up items. And for the last month of rant & rave, for 12 months, you have to look at the same things. The agriculture commission campaign has been on their for a month with the video and you can't get no updates. Thank you very much.

We're working to get the final bugs out of the system - including those concerning search functions and video postings. Please bear with us. - Editor

The reason the churches have so much influence in our gov't. here dates back to Roman Judea. The Romans were willing to let the temple preists run their money changing scams in return for support of their own power base & religion's ability to influence & control the masses. The 5 kings ( our Commission) rely on the churches to cement their power base by influencing elections. The best paying jobs around here are political or preaching! Wonder how many of 'em are willing to be crucified though? A simple solution would be to get out and vote for some new faces. These people are in power with a very weak percentage of the vote, in cases under 20%. This ain't good!

I am totally lost, I was born in this country, been paying taxes, since I was fifteen years old. I served in the United States military, and I am just completely, totally lost, and I would like for some of our illustrious, elected leaders to explain to me why we can take care of all these other countries like Haiti, $1.5 billion, Chile, the war in Afghanistan, and Iraq, trillions of dollars, and yet our taxes, our country is in such bad shape, it just seems totally backwards to me. County Commissioners in this county, taxes on the gas, when it would be so simple to let it go ahead and go wet, and let the ones that want to drink, drink and those that don't, don't anyway. If you don't think there is a bunch of drunks in this county, just come out to Dowling Park on the weekends and see. Come down to the little convenience store and watch them. It is like a continuous line going in there getting their beer and cigarettes. United States citizens I'm just questioning the people that we hire to  work for us. Why? Why is it this way. Because we the people allow it to be this way.  We are a bunch of chickens, and we are scared of the people that we elect.

It is open season for new leadership. We property owners that can't vote would like to urge the city voters and city taxpayers to please remove all of those individuals on May 4th! Surely there are some more competent, intelligent and trustworthy people to manage our city.
