With the Holy Week well under way and Easter Sunday approaching, many local believers may be in search of ways to worship and celebrate. In Live Oak, there will be various events associated with the Easter tradition, from cantatas to praise dancing and worship at sunrise.
The celebrations among area churchgoers are diverse, but there’s one thing they all promise: joy and praise.
“The reality of the resurrection of Christ is a historically documented fact that motivates all believers to gather in public worship and praise of our risen savior, and transforms our view of our lives and compels us to worship Him with joy and admiration,” said Community Presbyterian Church Rev. Randy Wilding.
Wilding’s church will celebrate with a cantata entitled “Risen Savior” Wednesday at 7 p.m. and a sunrise service at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday followed by regular services held at 10:45 a.m.
At St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church congregants began the week in observation of Palm Sunday, which signifies the beginning of Holy Week.
The church will continue the rest of this week with the observance of the Easter Triduum - Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
On Holy Thursday, there will be a Mass of the Lord's Supper to mark the anniversary of Christ's final meal, and the washing of the feet of parishioners. The Passion/Veneration of the Cross will take place to honor Christ's death on Good Friday, marked by participation in the Holy Eucharist or communion service. On Saturday, an 8:30 p.m. mass in the blessing of the fire, water and the paschal candle is expected to draw many local Catholics. An Easter Sunday service will take place at 9 a.m. with a service in Spanish at 11:30 a.m.
At Grace Lutheran Church, there will be an 8:30 a.m. breakfast followed by a traditional service at 10:30 a.m.
Friendship Baptist Church will celebrate a traditional Easter service on Sunday at 11 a.m. in combination with their Homecoming.
“We’re having a big bash to celebrate Easter and our Homecoming. They go together, if you think about it,” said Rev. Dr. Dave Teems.
An Easter Sunday praise dance with be held during 11 a.m. services at Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
First Baptist Church of Live Oak will be holding a special event Sunday morning in the Family Ministry Building at 8:15 or 10:45 a.m. Westwood Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 7 a.m. Sunday.
Peace Baptist Church invites everyone to a Friday musical “Amazing Grace”. On Sunday they will have a free breakfast beginning at 9:30 a.m. with events throughout the day.
At McAlpin Baptist Church an Easter Egg hunt will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. They will have an Easter Sunday breakfast at 9:45 a.m. followed by an Easter Sunday service at 10:45 a.m.
