The crime rate in Lafayette County dropped 41 percent last year from 2009, according to data from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Annual Uniform Crime Report, released Tuesday.
Crime was down in all index crimes, such as murder, zero from one; rape, zero from one; robbery; two from three; aggravated assault, 18 from 19; burglary, 11 from 37; larceny, 28 from 36 and motor vehicle theft, zero from three.
There were 59 crimes committed in the county compared to 100 in 2009. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office cleared 33.9 percent of those. The UCR registered 8,612 residents in the county in 2010.
The crime rate fell 6.5 percent statewide in 2010.
