Hamilton County Judge R.B. Davis recently announced his candidacy to return to the Hamilton County court bench by establishing a bank account and designating his wife, Cecil, as campaign treasurer.

Judge Davis was appointed County Court Judge for Hamilton County by Governor Jeb Bush in July of 2004 after the untimely death of the Honorable David Bembry, who had been the County Court Judge for Hamilton County for almost 25 years.

Since taking office in 2004 Judge Davis has conducted all the duties of County Court Judge, including County Criminal and Civil and Small Claims Courts. In addition to County Court duties, he sits as a Circuit Judge for Juvenile Courts in both Hamilton and Madison County.

Judge Davis was instrumental in starting Adult Drug Court and Juvenile Delinquency and Dependency Drug Courts in Hamilton County over which he presides as acting Circuit Judge. As a result of the drug courts taking place in Hamilton County, there are now three different groups providing substance abuse and anger management counseling programs in

Jasper. Soon a batterers' intervention counseling program will be available.

"This makes this kind of help available to those who need it most more conveniently and at a lower cost," said Judge Davis.

Judge Davis practiced law for 32 years in Jasper and Gainesville, Fla. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial and has served as a prosecutor and defense counsel.

He is a qualified Army Military Judge and served 25 years in active and reserve military service. He retired from the Florida National Guard in 2005 after having served in Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom and in the Viet Nam war.

Judge Davis is married to the former Cecil Hardy and they have two sons, one who is deceased, and three grandsons. Their surviving son is an active duty Army Captain.
