Hornets win 4th district in a row!

Lafayette 41 Hilliard 0

The Lafayette Hornets wrapped up their fourth district championship in a row with a 41-0 homecoming thumping of visiting Hilliard. The Hornets scored first on a nine yard run by Sergio Perez following a failed punt attempt by Hilliard. Blade Herring made the point after attempt (PAT) and the Hornets jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Following a Hilliard punt, quarterback Nick Bracewell hooked up with Jamal Reid on a 88 yard scoring pass to give the Hornets a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

To begin the second quarter, senior linebacker Casey Brewer recovered a Hilliard fumble giving the Hornets good field position. Following a huge loss, QB Nick Bracewell hit a streaking Sergio Perez on a 70 yard TD pass on third and 32. After the Hornet defense forced another punt, Bracewell hit Reid for a 19 yard TD to make the halftime score 27-0.

Shyler Morgan started the scoring on the Hornets first drive of the second half with a 47 yard run over the right side to push the score to 34-0. On the next possession, senior Blade Herring picked off a Hilliard Flashes pass and five plays later senior fullback JD Richardson punched in the score from one yard out to close out the scoring at 41-0.

Shlyer Morgan led the defense with 11 tackles, while JD Richardson and Thomas Byrd had nine stops each. The Hornets improved to 8-0 and now prepare for next week’s home game vs. Hawthorne.

Coach Joey Pearson says, “We are very excited to have won our fourth district in a row. Now hopefully we can continue to prepare for the last two regular season games and try to get healthy for the playoffs.”
