Hornets down Arlington 29-8

Lafayette locks up playoff berth

By Stephenie Livingston, Reporter

A week after a devastating loss to undefeated Hawthorne, the Hornets came back with a 29-8 win over one of Jacksonville’s most talked about teams of the season, the Apaches of Arlington Country Day. Playing his best game of the season, senior quarterback Nick Bracewell led his team to a spot in the playoffs, on senior night no less.

“We are excited about making the playoffs,” said Coach Joey Pearson. “We have played our best ball of the year recently and seem to be peaking at the right time.”

Bracewell and his go-to guy, Brooks Laminack, were back with full force completing an 87-yard touchdown pass during the second quarter. Always consistent, Laminack had four catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns. However, it was Arthur Sellers who came through for the Hornets in the second half, finishing the game with 97 yards and a touchdown off 21 carries.

The Apaches responded early with a 55-yard touchdown, but the Jacksonville team crumbled under pressure during the second half.

The Hornets improve to 6-2.
