JV Hornets fall to Madison

All the Lafayette junior varsity Hornets accomplished against Madison last Friday they accomplished in the first inning of a 12-3 loss. The Hornets collected all their hits and scored all their runs in the opening frame in dropping their sixth game of the season.
Madison right-hander Marty McDaniel limited the Hornets to just three hits in the outing. Lafayette grabbed a 3-0 lead, putting the first four batters on in their half of the first inning. After Brook Laminack walked to start the game Evan Barringer doubled him home and Barringer scored on an RBI single by Alex Gresham. Austin Henderson beat out an infield hit and scored also in the inning. After Gresham reached, McDaniel got the next three batters on strikes.
McDaniel allowed only two Hornet base runners over the last five innings retiring 15 of the last 17 he would face. Gresham drew a two-out walk in the third inning and Conner Lashley reached when he was plucked with a pitch.
Trailing 3-0, Madison scored eight times in the second inning adding a single run in the third and three in the sixth. Brit Wynn drilled a three-run home run for Madison in the sixth inning. Wynn had three hits in the game and he picked up five runs batted in.
Gresham hurled the first three innings for the Hornets in suffering the loss. Gresham allowed nine runs on seven hits. He did not strike out anyone and issued two walks. McDaniel went the distance for Madison in his three-hit performance. He had nine strike outs walking one and hitting one batter.
