Qualifying for two town council seats in Mayo ends this Friday at noon. This year there are two seats up for grabs, seats 2 and 4.
Danny Hewett currently holds seat 2, but is retiring this year and won’t be running for re-election.
Seat 4 was held by Taylor McGrew. As of Aug. 9, McGrew officially retired from the town council, as well as from Lafayette County Schools. At the last meeting of the town council, McGrew’s daughter Whitney McGrew was appointed to serve out the rest of her father’s term.
Town Council primary elections will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and the general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Both elections will be held at Lafayette County Library on those dates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
According to town hall, as of Tuesday, Aug. 27, six people have picked up qualifying packets, but no one has returned them yet. Deadline for qualifying is Friday at noon.
