Mayo — Lafayette's Josue Diaz (6) scored the go ahead goal to break a 2-2 tie as his teammates raced to celebrate during the District 2-1A championship game played in Mayo on Friday, Jan. 25. Lafayette defeated Maclay 5-2 and will host the District 1-1A runner-up Franklin County for the state title on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. This is the third district championship claimed by Lafayette High School this school year.

Mayo Christmas parade postponed
Due to the high potential of rain in the forecast Saturday night, the Mayo Christmas parade has been postponed until Saturday, Dec. 21. Parade line up is at 6 p.m.; parade starts at 7 p.m., per Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce.

Christmas on the Square festivities begin tonight
The exciting weekend will kickoff Friday night at 6:30 p.m. with the Jingle Bell Fun Run/Walk. Pre-registration at 6:15 p.m. at the Train Depot. Individuals can pre-register early by visiting Dairy Queen, Poole Realty, Chamber of Commerce and Suwannee Parks and Recreation and filling out a registration form. A Street Block Party will be held at 7 p.m. at the Train Depot featuring one of North Florida’s most popular bands, “Justin Case Band.” During a music break around 8 p.m., guests will enjoy a fireworks show in the parking lot between Stoudemire’s Restaurant and Huffman-Gilmore. Concessions will be available at the events.
