District 11 House race still tight; manual recount ordered

Staff

A manual recount of over- and undervotes has been ordered in the District 11 Florida House race between Democrat Debbie Boyd, the incumbent, and Republican challenger Elizabeth Porter.

Boyd increased her lead slightly after a machine recount, but the margin – 36,889 to 36,713 – remained less than one-quarter of 1 percent, triggering an automatic recount of ballots on which voters appear to have selected both candidates (overvotes) or neither candidate (undervotes). If a voter’s intent can be determined, the ballot will be counted for the intended candidate.

Before the machine recount, Boyd led by 158 votes, 36,315 to 36,157. The current margin is 176 votes.
