A new face at the Free Press

Staff

Barbara Gill has joined the staff of the Mayo Free Press.

Gill has worked in a number of Suwannee County governmental departments, beginning in 1989 as the Recycling Education Coordinator with the Suwannee County Extension office. She later transferred to the newly formed 911 Addressing Office, where she helped set up the office and organize the first set of addresses and maps provided from contracts with outside firms. Gill became the warrant secretary for then-Sheriff Al Williams after seven years in Addressing.

Following a year and a half with the sheriff’s office, Gill took a part time position as Resource Consultant with the Suwannee County Conservation District. The District sponsors many youth education programs, including land judging, the Suwannee Regional Envirothon and speech and poster contests. During this time Gill submitted a great number of stories and photos to area newspapers. Enjoying this type of work is what prompted Gill to apply for the reporter position.

Contact Gill at 386-935-4440.
