A 1995 GMC pickup crashed near the intersection of CR 251 and NW Bering Road near Day Saturday, killing one occupant and another was hospitalized with critical injuries. Both men were ejected and it is not clear which was driving, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.
Shawn Wheeler, 37, of Interlachen, died at the scene and Jeffrey Wheeler, 39, of Branford was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
The single vehicle accident occurred around 11:40 a.m. The unidentified driver lost control of the pickup while heading south around a curve on CR 251. The vehicle overturned and came to final rest on the northbound shoulder.
According to reports, neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. A preliminary investigation showed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash, said FHP.
Charges are pending, the report indicated.
FHP estimated damage to the vehicle at $5,000.
