Little Miss Pioneer Day event draws 150
55 children participate
By Ira Mikell, Free Press Reporter
An estimated crowd of 150 came to Veterans Memorial Park of Mayo on Saturday, Sept. 20, to watch 55 girls ages 4-12 compete for a crown in their age group during the 14th annual Little Miss Pioneer Day.
Three winners were declared: Bailey Lawson (4-6), Tanya Buchanan (6-9), and Taylor Rackley (10-12). Kelly Lyons, one of the organizers of the event, explained that the winners are chosen by a random drawing.
Lawson is 4 years old and is the daughter of Aaron and Jessica Lawson. Naomi Martinez, last year’s winner, gave her the crown. This was the first time Lawson competed in this event.
Buchanan is 7, and the daughter of Errol and Felicia Buchanan. This is her third competition. She received her crown from last year’s recipient, Adriana Ramirez.
Rackley is 11, and is the daughter of Christy Williams. This is her first Little Miss Pioneer Day competition. Karley Barrington, last year’s winner, crowned Rackley.
Lyons thanks everyone who assisted her in putting the community event together, especially the children who participated and displayed their Pioneer Day spirit.
