Several Ag Literacy Day volunteers made a special visit to students at Lighthouse Christian Academy on Friday, April 18. Lafayette Elementary participated on Tuesday, April 15.
As each guest opened “These Florida Farms” and began to read, the students’ faces glowed with excitement as they listened attentively to the story. In one classroom, when Donna Moore paused from reading a section to ask a question, nearly every student quickly raised a hand to give an answer.
After the guests read “These Florida Farms” to their assigned classrooms, they gave each teacher a free book along with a packet of educational materials.
The readers who participated were Jana Hart, Pippi Cashman, Barbara Roberts and Matt Peterson. They represented Lafayette FFA, Lafayette 4-H and Lafayette Farm Bureau. Other volunteers from Lafayette FFA and Lafayette Farm Bureau read to students at Lafayette Elementary.
Ag Literacy Day is an annual event that helps promote agriculture in the classroom as well as to strengthen students’ knowledge about how food travels from the farm to the table through reading.
