Chamber seeking executive director

Live Oak — The Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce is seeking to fill the executive director position vacated late December by Dennis Cason who left for retirement. The person filling the position will be responsible for marketing and promoting business and tourism for Suwannee County.

The salary for the position is set at $40-$45,000 plus benefits.

According to the job description, the person hired will be required to fulfill a list of duties in three different capacities.

As the manager of the chamber office, the director will be required to maintain a relationship with Board of Directors; oversee and supervise general day to day operations of the Chamber and the administrative assistant; provide both support and leadership to the Board of Directors and any committees appointed by the board; maintain strong and open communication with the board; perform a monthly review of goals and accomplishments with the board; work closely with the board to create and implement a strategic plan, annual work plan, and annual budget; attend and be aware of committee activity and offer direction and motivation; and plan and implement fundraising events for the Chamber of Commerce.

As a community liason, duties include: acting as a spokesperson for the organization; acting as a liaison between the Chamber and other community entities, such as local government, service organizations, civic organizations and the media; meet with both Suwannee County Commission, City of Live Oak and the Town of Branford at least once a month, and attend various board meetings; create materials and events to heighten tourism; attend monthly meetings of the TDC and improve outreach efforts to attract visitors to Suwannee County; develop and maintain an active volunteer list, and assign duties as necessary; write a monthly article for the media; coordinate or participate in ribbon cuttings, ground-breakings, grand openings and other business celebration activities of chamber members and potential members; and coordinate the annual membership banquet.

From an economic development standpoint, the director must: provide positive leadership to influence government policy affecting business, and economic development issues specific to our area; refer any leads of economic development to appropriate officials and assist where needed; work with local and state agencies to provide support services for local economic development initiatives; promote Suwannee County at trade shows, fairs and events where appropriate and when possible; develop networks with consultants, project managers, business developers and stakeholders.

Applications are due by January 20. According to Chairman Bruce Tillman, the board hopes to have the position filled by early February.
