High-speed chase comes to fiery end

Indiana man wanted for bank robbery

An Indiana man wanted for bank robbery led police on a two-state, high-speed chase that came to a fiery end near Live Oak Wednesday. No one was hurt.

John Study, 45, of Zionsville, Ind. fled Lowndes County deputies in a stolen motor home after failing to pay for fuel, authorities said.

He entered Madison County then drove east on US 90 toward Live Oak, trailed by sheriff's deputies from three counties.

At least two of the RV's tires blew when the vehicle ran over a stop stick placed in the roadway east of I-10. The motor home continued on, however, trailing smoke and flames as it raced through downtown Live Oak.

The chase ended about three miles east of Live Oak near the Boys Ranch Opportunity Store when Study, possibly overcome by smoke, stopped the vehicle in the middle of US 90 east.

The vehicle was largely engulfed in flames at the crash scene.

Study was taken into custody at the scene. Charges include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon after Study rammed a Madison County police cruiser during the pursuit. The officer was uninjured.
