ATV TRACK OWNERS TO TRY AGAIN

Will seek zoning ruling to allow motocross park, campground to reopen

By Jeff Waters, Democrat Reporter

The owners of an ATV racetrack and campground that was closed in May are seeking approval from the county zoning board to reopen.

William and Enola Golightly will ask Thursday for a special zoning exception to operate a motocross track and overnight camping facilities on part of a 160-acre tract they own about 12 miles north of Live Oak in the Fort Union area.

Jimmy and Stacey Worth, who own land adjoining the track, sued the county in 2006, arguing that the county failed to give them and other adjacent property owners sufficient notice of the public hearing, denying them an opportunity to appear and be heard at the meeting.

On May 19 Suwannee County Circuit Judge David Fina overturned the

zoning board of adjustment's decision allowing the track, AmpXtreme Adrenaline Motorsports Park, to open.

The court ruled that the county violated Florida law by failing to publish or post advertising material notifying the public of the meeting within 10 days of the application for special exception.

Neighbors complained about the park from the day it opened in the fall of 2007 regarding noise and traffic levels.

The Suwannee County Zoning Board of Adjustment will hear the Golightlys' request Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Live Oak City Hall.
