Student struck by car at crosswalk

Full recovery expected for 16-year-old

By Jeff Waters, Democrat Reporter

A Suwannee High student was struck by a car as she walked from the high school to Suwannee-Hamilton Technical Center Tuesday afternoon.

According to authorities, the 16-year-old girl was crossing Pinewood Way between the schools yesterday at around 2:10 p.m. when she walked into the path of an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe.

Reports say the Tahoe was traveling slower than the posted speed limit of 20 miles per hour when the accident occurred.

The student was taken to Shands Live Oak for treatment. She was said to be conscious on arrival at the hospital.
