A convenience store clerk suffered multiple stab wounds during a Saturday afternoon robbery, say police.
The clerk, whom police declined to identify, was standing near the entrance of the Jiffy Store at Lee Avenue and US 90 smoking a cigarette when a man with a knife ran up and forced her inside the store, where he stabbed her repeatedly in the abdomen and ordered her to open the register, said Live Oak Police Det. Sgt. Ron Shaw. The man then ordered her to the back of the store and fled, said Shaw.
The clerk was taken to Shands Live Oak then lifeflighted to a Gainesville hospital where she underwent surgery. Shaw said she was listed in good condition as of Monday and was being moved to a regular room.
The man took an undisclosed amount of money, but officials believe the amount is small. Shaw said the whole ordeal lasted only about 30 seconds.
The robber is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 to 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a black toboggan, long-sleeve blue sweatshirt with a white T-shirt underneath and blue jeans. He is estimated to be 35-40 years of age. He was wearing a stocking pulled below his eyes at the time of the robbery.
Shaw called the man a “menace to society.”
Officers have several leads, but are asking anyone with information, especially anyone present at the store between 3:10 and 3:15 Saturday, to contact Shaw at 386-362-7463 or Crime Stoppers at 386-208-8477.
