Mike Pittman, the man who led the Suwannee Bulldogs to four consecutive state football championships in the late 80s then did a stint across the river in Jasper, is returning to Hamilton High after a four-year absence.
“We about had it turned around before, we hope to turn it around again,” Pittman said Friday. “We’ve got some good kids here.”
School officials seem glad he’s back.
"He's probably the most talented coach anywhere in the area," Hamilton County Superintendent of Schools Martha Butler said by phone. "He overwhelmingly impressed the selection committee. I'm excited about it."
Pittman, hired earlier this month, last coached the Trojans in 2004.
Before returning to Hamilton County High School, he had been teaching at the state-run Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Jasper.
