Aggravated assault with deadly weapon: Jasper man charged

A Jasper man was arrested Nov. 1 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery-domestic violence after he allegedly threatened his fiancée and her son with a .22 caliber revolver.

During the incident, John C. Bracewell Jr., 60, allegedly caused minor injury to his fiancée. The gun was wrestled away from him by her son and thrown into a nearby pond by the fiancée’s daughter, say sheriff’s reports.

Bracewell was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail. He was released the following day, after posting bond.

Deputy Mark Thomas of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded.

In other news, Rey Nicolas, 25, of 1846 Hamilton Avenue, Jennings, was taken into custody on Nov. 1 after allegedly battering a female subject and threatening her with a knife. As he was being taken into custody, he verbally threatened retaliation against the victim, say reports. Nicolas was charged with battery-domestic violence and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and was later released.

On Nov. 2, 38-year-old Timothy Kirkland Harris, 5627 US Highway 41, Jasper, was charged with battery-domestic violence and knowingly driving with a suspended license. According to the report filed by Deputy Jeramie Cheshire, Harris became angry when a female victim refused to leave her home with him. He then allegedly punched her several times before driving away. Cheshire apprehended the subject a short while later as he was driving past the victim’s residence, reports show. Harris was transported to the jail where he is being held on a $10,000 bond.

On Oct. 31, James Luke Gaskins, 25, of 5815 SW 64th Drive, Jasper, was taken into custody and charged with battery-domestic violence and resisting arrest without violence and transported to jail by Deputy Mark Thomas, jail records show. According to Thomas’ report, Gaskins had choked a family member and left the residence. Deputies encountered Gaskins, who was visibly agitated, say reports, a short distance away and attempted to speak with him. He then attempted to run from officers, reportedly threatening to fight. He is being held in Hamilton County Jail without bond.

On Oct. 26, 32-year-old Angela Clay Sheppard, of 1367 Berry Street, Jennings, was charged with battery-domestic violence. According to a report by Deputy T.L. Griffin Jr., Sheppard allegedly threw alcohol on a male victim. As he approached her to find out why, witnesses reported she cut him on the neck with a broken glass, authorities say. The victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center where he was treated and released. Sheppard was transported to the county jail and was released later that day after posting bond.

On Oct. 25, Rigoberto Perez, 32, of 1846 Hamilton Avenue, Jennings, was arrested and charged with battery after allegedly kissing a minor, according to deputy Mike Cohen. The father of the victim reportedly witnessed the incident and detained Perez while waiting for law enforcement. Perez has since been released.
