On Wednesday, July 18, Lt. Mike Holton was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of NW 5th Ave. and NW 3rd St. in Jasper, according to a traffic report form the Jasper Police Department. The two vehicles involved in the accident were a 1993 Ford truck driven by Joyce Larraine Herring of Jasper and a 1985 Cadillac driven by William Osrow Poore II of Lake Park, Ga.
The report states that a witness at the scene said Poore failed to stop at the stop sign as he was traveling west on 3rd St. His car moved into the path of Herring’s truck, which was traveling south on 5th Ave.
When the collision occurred, Poore’s car continued across 5th Ave., hit a stop sign and stopped approximately 20 yards from the point of impact, according to the report. Herring’s car spun halfway around and rolled onto the driver’s side.
Poore was charged with violation of right of way and no proof of insurance, the report states. The damage to Poore’s car was approximately $8,000; the damage to Herring’s truck was approximately $10,000.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, according to the report.
Herring was transported by Trauma One helicopter to a hospital in Jacksonville, the report stated. Poore was treated at Trinity Community Hospital.
