Jasper Fire/Rescue to appear on Webcast

The Jasper Fire Rescue Department has been selected to appear on a Webcast on July 25, from 1 p.m. until 2:40 p.m.

In April 2008 the Jasper Fire Rescue Department conducted a program titled Courage To Be Safe, Everyone Goes Home, a four-hour safety program to train firefighters to be more safe in their daily operations and to help prevent firefighter fatalities. The training was conducted by Assistant Chief Allen Blanton and at the conclusion of the training all members of the Jasper Fire Rescue Department signed a pledge to wear their seat belts while operating or riding in fire equipment.

The seat belt pledge was then submitted to the Everyone Goes Home Campaign. Chief Bill Trinder was then contacted by Brett Pollock, state advocate for the Everyone Goes Home Campaign at the end of May, and advised that the Jasper Fire Rescue Department was the first volunteer fire department in the world to complete the training and have 100 percent participation on the seat belt pledge. Trinder was also asked if the Jasper Fire Rescue Department would like to participate in a World Wide Webcast that would explain how each department conducted the training and then a timed demonstration of firefighters placing all of their personal protective gear (bunker gear) on and entering the fire apparatus placing their seat belts on.

Hosting the Webcast will be Burt Clark from the National Fire Academy in Washington D.C. The Webcast will be through Firehouse.com and is scheduled for Friday, July 25, from 1 p.m. until 2:40 p.m. (EST). Fire Departments participating in the cast will be: Wilson Fire Department in Carolina; Columbus Fire & Rescue in Mississippi; Morphett Vale County Fire Service in Australia; WSI Fire & Emergency Services in Baghdad, Iraq; Inch Fire Station #67 Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom; Jasper Fire Rescue Department in Florida; and Dallas Fire & Rescue in Dallas, Tex.

Special thanks to Assistant Chief Allen Blanton for conducting this training and being selected to participate in this Webcast.

Tactical equipment to make this Webcast possible is being supplied by John Smith and Judy Squires, Rings & Things of Jasper.

For more information, contact Chief Bill Trinder or Assistant Chief Allen Blanton at 386-792-2211.
