School board recognizes GED graduates, retirees

By Jo Ross, Reporter

In a special program held prior to Monday night’s school board meeting, board members gave special recognition to the recent graduates of the GED program and recognition to those school district employees who recently retired.

In addition to the GED graduates and retirees, Superintendent Martha Butler presented Jan Hunter with recognition for her faithful service to the school district over the years.

Hamilton County’s GED program operates under the direction of Rex Mitchell, Nancy Cropp and Marsha Barker with assistance from Evelyn Davis. On hand to receive their General Equivalency Diplomas were Justin Hollyfield and Brandon Joe Smart. Additional GEDs were issued but the graduates were not in attendance.

Retirees for the 2008-09 school year are: JoAnn Brown, Cheryl McCall, Joann Brown, Margaret Corbett, Ruth Cribbs, Linda Denton, Bernice Law, Rubye Lumpkin and Cheryl McCall.

Joy Howell and Debbie Reed were on hand from First Federal Savings Bank to congratulate the retirees and present them with a $50 savings account as a gift from the bank.

Prior to the conclusion of the program and the beginning of a reception to honor graduates and retirees, the school board presented a certificate of appreciation to First Federal Savings Bank for its continued assistance.
