NFCC hosts FFA contest

NFCC hosts District 3 Future Farmers of America contest

North Florida Community College welcomed participants of the District 3 Future Farmers of America contest to its campus Jan. 22. Nearly 200 students, ranging from middle school age to high school seniors, took part in the district event which offered FFA members from Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, Suwannee, Lafayette, Dixie, Columbia, Putnam, Levy and Gilchrist counties a chance to meet and also compete in areas such as knowledge, public speaking and tractor operations. Students from both Suwannee High School and Branford High School took part in the event.

After the opening ceremony at NFCC’s Van H. Priest Auditorium, the various FFA chapters separated into groups to test their public speaking skills and knowledge of FFA, agriculture mechanics, agriculture management and farm equipment against fellow FFA members. Competitions were held on the NFCC campus and at the Madison County Extension Office, adjacent to the college campus. NFCC provided the students with information on college programs and assisted in the preparation of lunch for the group.

“Hosting the young men and women of FFA District 3 is a treat,” said Doug Brown, NFCC Dean of Program Development and Community Outreach. “These are among the best and brightest students in our area schools. The college is honored to partner with such a quality program.”
