City of Perry grants “Special Recognition” to NFCC

Resolution cites national ranking by Washington Monthly magazine

On behalf of the City Council and citizens of Perry, Mayor Emily Weed Ketring issued a proclamation of Special Recognition to North Florida Community College (NFCC) during the Perry City Council meeting Tuesday, Jan. 8. President Morris G. Steen Jr., a resident of Shady Grove, accepted on behalf of the trustees, faculty, staff and students of the college. NFCC, with its main campus in Madison, serves Taylor County as well as five other rural north Florida counties.

The document praised NFCC for its quality of instruction and high level of student satisfaction. It also cited NFCC’s sixth place in the first national ranking of community colleges by The Washington Monthly. NFCC was the only Florida community college among the top 10. The report relied heavily on a comparison of graduation and retention rates experienced by community colleges.

Ketring extended the Special Recognition certificate with “honor and pleasure.”
