Another basketball season is in the books for Branford High School. The way things work in Florida basketball, means all but six teams end their season with a loss. That is exactly what the Branford varsity boys did last Tuesday against Bell H.S. The Bucs finished their season with a record of 12 and 12; two of those wins came against Bell. Would a third win against Bell have made this season a success? I think one game does not a season make. There were many highlights during the 05-06 campaign that made it memorable and satisfying. The team played in five close games and won three of them. The simple fact is, as the Buccaneers play better basketball, they will be in more close games. In close games, some go your way and some do not.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank some of the important folks that helped this team shine. Four seniors provided excellent leadership throughout this year and, as always the basketball parents supported the team through good and bad. Coach Steve Brown was there behind the scenes ensuring the team had the support it needed and Coach Mickey Dempsey was always willing to lend a helping hand. Alex Sarandos was a super team manager, Daniel Chittenden managed the scoreboard and Stefani Santos helped keep the game book.

The season may be over but the preparation never stops. The boys will be back at it over the summer and November will be here in no time. Branford basketball will continue to make progress and I am glad to be a part of it.
