Registration opens for SHS swim team
As the 2008-2009 Suwannee High School swim season approaches, coach Kathy Wood says she’s looking forward to a great season. Anyone interested in becoming a part of this year’s team should go by the Billy Jernigan Pool Facility, 1301 Walker Ave. SW, Live Oak, meet with Wood and pick up an information packet as soon as possible. The team will get started Monday, Aug. 11. The team will hold several fundraisers including selling banners to hang at the pool during the high school season. Please help support this great team of outstanding student athletes by purchasing a banner or participating in one of this season’s fundraisers.

The Suwannee County Small Farmer’s Market held each Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the loading dock of the Suwannee County Museum will close for the year on Wednesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. We would like to thank everyone who came in and shopped with us this year. FDACS re-offers Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Cost-Share Program
Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Forestry is re-offering the Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Cost Share Program to eligible non-industrial private forest landowners. Applications will be available beginning Wednesday, July 30 and will be evaluated on a first-received, first-served basis. The program offers up to 50 percent cost reimbursement for pre-commercial thinning, prescribed burning and mechanical underbrush treatments in existing pine stands, and a $50 per acre incentive payment for landowners who conduct a first pulpwood thinning. In addition, landowners may apply to receive up to 50 percent reimbursement for the cost of longleaf seedlings and $25 per acre in planting cost assistance to establish a longleaf pine plantation. Qualified landowners may apply for up to two approved practices per year. The minimum tract size requirement is 10 acres and funding requests may not exceed $10,000. Lady of the Lake Quilting Guild to meet
Lady of the Lake Quilting Guild will meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 23 at Suwannee River Regional Library, 1848 US 129 South, Live Oak with social time beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Guild is an organization for anyone interested in quilts and the art of quilting.
