By Shirley Hatch, Branford News Publisher

The Branford Buccaneer varsity scored big in the first two quarters of play against opponent St. Johns at Buccaneer stadium Friday night. The final score was 48-6. The Bucs recorded 27 points in the opening quarter; 14 in the second period to lead 41-0 at half time. A TD in the third quarter completed the Bucs scoring.

They beat Upperroom Christian from Fort Lauderdale 10-0 last week. They will be a tough opponent. We'll have to play hard."

John Perry a junior lead the Bucs in scoring with three touchdowns, a 52 yard, 39 yard and a 7 yard run. Trent Thompson a sophomore scored on a 31 yard pass from Perry. Tim Clark and Kyle Certain each had a TD. Certain completed four point after attempts, while Perry boated one, and one kick failed.

The Bucs garnered 317 total yards, had 10 first downs and didn't punt the pigskin all night. They were penalized 3 times for 25 yards.

According to Coach Bill Wiles Kyle Certain led the Bucs defensively with 7 tackles; Trent Thompson had 4; David Barrs and Wade Armstrong each had 3. David Bass a sophomore had two interceptions.

Wiles said, "it was a team effort. All the players participated and that's a good thing."

The Bucs will go into Bronson with a perfect 1-0 regular season record Friday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
