Five amendments to the charter of White Springs will highlight a special town election April 27.
According to City Clerk Shirley Heath, the town Council has called for a ballot referendum to settle and clarify several points of concern relative Council policy and procedure.
Amendment number ONE for voter consideration, relates to authority of Mayor and Council to address the calling of special meetings and/or emergency meetings.
Voters will voice an opinion April 27 on amendment TWO in regards to the swearing-in of new Council members at a designated organizational meeting.
Merit and fitness qualifications, as applied to the appointment and promotion of town officers, is the crux of amendment THREE to be voted upon.
Amendment FOUR specifies a policy by which elected municipal officials shall take office, and amendment FIVE covers vote tabulation procedures as deemed acceptable to Council
The proposed White Springs charter amendments may be reviewed and inspected by residents at Town Hall on Bridge St., during normal working hours.
