Vesta C. Tompkins, 84, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in Suwannee Health Care Center, Live Oak.
Mrs. Tompkins was born Sept. 29, 1920 in Illinois and moved to the Branford area in 1990 from Starke. She was the director of nursing for Whispering Pines Nursing Home, in Starke. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army during WW II and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Branford.
Survivors include, one daughter, Sandra Dempsey (Mickey) of Branford; one son, James Tompkins, Jr. (Amelia) of Jasper; three sisters, Bernice Sutherland of Palm Beach Gardens, Phyllis Barker of Mooresville, NC, and Carol Pressley of Smyrna, Ga.; one brother, Sidney Campbell, Jr. of St. Petersburg; four grandchildren, Joshua David Tompkins, Daniel Hamilton Tompkins, Caitlin Susanna Dempsey, Natalie Alisa Dempsey, and one step grand daughter Kena Marie Creech.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Branford with Rev. Louis Mederis and Rev. Freda Steele officiating.
Interment followed in Oak Grove Memorial Cemetery, Branford. Visitation was held Friday evening, 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Daniels Funeral Home, Inc. of Branford was in charge of all arrangements.
