Robert W. Davis, 20, of P. O. Box 274, O'Brien, lost his life early Monday morning when he drove into the path of a 1996 Kenworth semi driven by James H. Gray, 45, of P. O. Box 1455, Old Town. The accident occurred six miles south of Branford at 2:40 a.m.

According to a report from Florida Highway Patrol, Davis driving a 1989 Jeep SUV was westbound on U. S. 27, and the semi was traveling eastbound on U. S. 27. The jeep crossed the center line and traveled into the direct path of the semi. The jeep struck the semi on the left side with the left front rotated clockwise, overturned and caught fire. It came to final rest on the north shoulder facing west. The semi came to a controlled stop on the south shoulder.

The deceased man was identified through driver's licenses records at approximately 2 p.m. Monday afternoon.

According to Trooper Mike Cagle with FHP, Davis was the fifteenth fatality in Suwannee County this year. According to Cagle there were eight by this time in 2004, and a total of 19 in 2004.
