Earl D. Lewis, D.D. S.

Earl D. Lewis, D. D. S., age 83, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in Jacksonville. Mr. Lewis was born March 19, 1922, in Jasper, Florida. He served in World War II in the Naval Air Corp in the Pacific Theater as a carrier pilot on the USS Essex (1943-1944).

Earl practiced dentistry for 30 years in Jacksonville and was a life member of the American Dental Association. He grew up in the Jennings Primitive Baptist Church. Earl was a peacemaker, an encourager, a gentle quiet spirit, a compassionate and considerate person. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who gave of himself to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen, and a son, Randy Lewis, both of Jacksonville; two brothers: Thomas Lewis of Jasper, and Virgil Lewis of Orlando, Florida; one sister, Kathryn Prescott of Sanford, Florida; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Saturday, September 3, 2005, at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper with Reverend Wendell Hill officiating.

Jeanette Jestes

Jeanette Jestes, age 85, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia. The Hamilton County native was a homemaker and was a faithful Pink Lady, at both Trinity Community Hospital and Suwannee Valley Nursing Center. She was a member of West Lake Church of God. Mrs. Jestes was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Jestes.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Terri Fletcher of Jasper; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Janice Hester of Jasper; Mary Ann and J.W. Hunter of Statenville, Georgia; Shirley and Pete Wood of Albany, Georgia; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 27, 2005, at West Lake Church of God. Officiating was Pastor Ralph Dillard assisted by Reverend Mark Collins. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Gilbert V. McGhin

Gilbert V. McGhin, age 56, of White Springs, Florida, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in Lake City, Florida. McGhin was born September 29, 1948, in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Ted and Clara Gilbert McGhin. He lived most of his life in Hamilton County and was a former supervisor and purchasing agent at PCS. Since 1996, he had been employed by Lake City Medical Center where he was Director of Support Services. McGhin was a member of Suwannee Church of the Nazarene near White Springs.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Ethel Hillhouse McGhin of White Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law: Amy and Joe Greene, and Karen and Billy Register, all of White Springs; two brothers: James Wachob of Lake City, and Bob McGhin of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his father-in-law, Fred Hillhouse of White Springs; two grandsons: Andrew Greene and Corey Register.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 2, 2005, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Reverend William White and Reverend Randy Ogburn officiating. Interment followed in Swift Creek Cemetery.
