Gaye Buchanan, aged 97, ended her journey here on earth on March 23, 2011, at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, Florida. She was born March 14, 1914, in Morganton, Georgia, the sixth child of Luther and Nola Bowers.
Gaye was preceded in death by her father, her mother, four sisters, three brothers, one son (Jehoiada Buchanan), and two grandsons (Phillip Blair and Brandon Buchanan). She is survived by two sons, Gerald Buchanan and wife, Betty, and Wilson Buchanan and wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Carol Blair and husband, Billy and Debbie Ragans and husband, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Lisa Buchanan; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Gaye devoted her life to her family. She was a student of the Bible and loved singing and listening to gospel music. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Lizella, Georgia, where she taught bible study classes. She worked in various occupations throughout her life and retired as a supervisor from Tenneco Oil Company. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and quilting.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26th in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Wright officiating. Interment followed at Burnham Christian Church Cemetery immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Suwannee Valley Nursing Center, 427 N.W. 15th Avenue, Jasper, Florida 32052. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Juanita Davis, age 82, of Jasper, FL. passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Lake City Medical Center in Lake City, FL. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and member of the Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Davis.
Survivors include one son, Anthony Porterfield, Frostproof, FL.; two daughters, Amyrlus Frazier, Live Oak, FL. and Glenda Windham, Jasper, FL.; a brother and a sister; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Suwannee Healthcare in Live Oak, FL. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Leon Curtis McGauley
October 18, 1942 - March 27, 2011
Leon Curtis McGauley, age 68, of Jasper, FL. passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 at his home. Surrounded by the people that loved him, Leon was granted his last wish when he was able to come home to Jasper one last time. Hamilton County was the place he wanted to be. Leon was born at Genoa in Hamilton County on October 18, 1942 to Hansford Leigh and Edna Eloise Mercer McGauley. He was the owner/operator of Mac’s Auto Repair in Jasper and served on the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners for 16 years. When Leon was not working he loved to spend his time at his place at Suwannee with a fishing rod in hand. He devoted time to the Shriners and was a member of the John M. Caldwell Masonic Lodge. Mr. McGauley was a member of Harvest Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Raymond, Billy and Walter “Buddy” McGauley.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Gloria McDonald McGauley; one son, Douglas Leigh McGauley (Karen Hunter); and one daughter, Karen Raishon Johns, all of Jasper; two brothers, James McGauley, Jacksonville, FL. and Carl McGauley, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two sisters, Jean Fralick, Jasper, FL. and Lana Wisenbaker, Jennings, FL.; two beautiful granddaughters whom he loved with all his heart, Ashleigh McGauley Allen and Megan Amber Johns.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Harvest Fellowship with Pastor Jerry Thomason officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
